    And Don't Forget The BEER!!

Enjoying your Bike-Camping Trip (collective wisdom of other bikers):

Build up a good backrest with the gear you take (sleeping bag and pad are usually enough for this). Be able to lean back into this gear as you would into a highback chair and still be able to comfortably reach the handlebars.

Pack the heavy stuff low in the saddlebags and the lighter stuff on top to keep the center of gravity low on the bike. Practice starting and stopping with your bike fully loaded to get a feel for how handling has changed before you get to a major intersection.

Small tank bags are good for keeping stuff you need to access quickly (maps, gloves, energy bars, water bottle, etc.). Keep the contents of this bag light since it will throw the center of gravity off if it's too heavy.

Ride slow and enjoy! Getting into the vibes of the trip is more important than getting to the destination. Keep your time schedules flexible and your destinations dynamic. Don't be afraid to be a day or a week late getting somewhere, or to not get there at all.

Credit cards are good in major towns but cold, hard cash and, usually, travelers checks are accepted anywhere.

Stay street smart. Ride as if you were invisible, because in most cases, even if you are seen, you're still *invisible* in the eyes of cagers.

"Park your bike on your ground cloth & pitch a tarp over it. Peg it down & sleep next to a nice warm exhaust pipe.  Gear, bike & man with one tent!" (Submitted by LG KEETON/FTYW MC) I'm not sure this one is safe, depending on how nice & warm that exhaust pipe is!!

"After you pack all 229 of these items in your truck don't forget to take your bike." (Submitted by ddjs@seidata.com)
